After being landlocked for too long, I was finally able to get back to the water a couple weeks ago. What was planned for some cobia fishing turned into a bunch of catching Jack Crevalle along the beach, on flies, plugs, just about anything you wanted to feed them!
I was able to spend some time with friends, and we all enjoyed some great sightfishing along the beaches. Some schools were big – containing 100+ fish – while others were smaller pods of only 20-30 fish. None of the fish we saw were busting bait, but once you saw the ball of jacks we were able to position ourselves for shots on fly. The fish that wouldn’t let us get close enough, we just teased them in with big plugs on spinning rods while the other person threw into the bunch with the fly. We had a lot of action and enjoyed switching back and forth, on and off the bow. Below are a few photos, and a short video clip above.
